Having previously lived on the north coast of Cornwall, these pieces were created during my first few weeks spent in Penwith. Small moments that express how it feels to be in this enchanting part of Cornwall, discovering what this new home feels like, and how it affects my work and self.
Exposed onto delicate washi paper that I’ve hand coated with silver gelatin emulsion, the surface of the works are made up of myriad brushstrokes, imperfections and subtle textures.
By implementing a wabi sabi approach, and filtering photographs and memories and moments of my life through it, I can not only elicit the ethereal atmosphere I felt at the time, but also embrace imperfection rather than trying to control it.
